Project description
Multimedia over the Internet is a rapidly evolving reality that is expanding its offer with new technologies and applications. A testimony to this change is provided by the remote play streaming services, augmented/virtual reality and high quality interactive multimedia that require both a very low E2E latency and a high-quality video stream in order to be properly enjoyed. These new interactive multimedia services are often more stringent in terms of quality of service (QoS) and quality of experience (QoE) when compared to classic ones and a possible solution to the problem can be found in new network protocols and architectures like QUIC, SDN and NFV. Unfortunately, there are few studies related to their implementation and effectiveness in improving interactive multimedia streaming; it is hence a challenging opportunity to study and understand them in this context. My PhD project has the objective to inspect the critical issues of these emerging technologies and applications in the networked multimedia field and to try to mitigate or even solve them with the support of new protocols and architectures. Implementation, analysis and testing (both quantitative and qualitative/subjective) will be performed.
